Owning rats, or as some say, being owned by rats, is a journey. For me it began with being intensely rat-phobic to where I am now, rat-obsessed (ok, i admit it).

In my search to protect the walls from projectile peeing I tried covering the back of the cage with fabric, purchasing ferret corner potties and washing down the walls repeatedly.

None of these worked.

However!!! I finally hit on something that works, is relatively inexpensive, cannot be dragged into the cage and chewed and is relatively pleasing to look at (okay, maybe not pretty, lets just say its not completely butt-uggly). They are foam core presentation boards that come in black or white. You can spray them with clear acrylic or cover them with clear contact paper so they can be wiped down easily during cage cleaning time. They are light-weight and rigid and also help to prevent drafts.

You can purchase them at your local office depot but I found some online that are a much better price (although I haven't purchased from here, so cannot vouch for it, maybe someone who has can write a comment and let people know if they are reliable).
